Claremont invests in cutting edge cosmetic surgery
Claremont Hospital has invested in new liposuction machinery which uses shock waves to remove fat from problem areas.
The independent hospital, on Sandygate Road, has invested more than £40,000 in a state-of-the-art ultrasonic machine.
Consultant plastic surgeon Mr David Dujon said: “This is a much gentler technique for the patient and enables the surgeon to be more precise, so we can remove the fat cells without damaging the surrounding tissue.
“This means less recovery time for patients, and also delivers smoother results without the ridging that can sometimes happen.”
The UltraSculpt technique gently melts fat and removes it from surrounding tissue which means it can both be used in very sensitive areas of the body as well as for removing stubborn areas of fat that are resistant to dieting and exercise.
Mr Dujon, who is also clinical director of plastic surgery at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “For surgeons who have been trained, this machine really is the Rolls Royce of ultrasonic liposuction especially for treating male breasts.
“I was previously referring such patients to a colleague in Cambridge, but now we can perform the procedure in Sheffield and I would expect numbers to increase for this procedure.”
The numbers of men having breast reduction surgery is increasing, according to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS).
‘Man boob’ ops or gynaecomastia was the second most common male procedure in 2011, rising by seven per cent from 741 to 790.
The government recently announced a review of the UK cosmetic surgery industry, a move welcomed by Claremont Hospital Director Andy Davey.
