Scope of Practice:

Dr Lagundoye is a Consultant in General Adult and Addiction Psychiatry with the Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust, with a private practice at Claremont.

Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in psychiatry at the University of Sheffield.

His main areas of clinical practice are the management of:

  • Alcohol and substance misuse problems including prescription drug misuse i.e. codeine, benzodiazepines
  • Management of mood disorders, depression, anxiety, psychosis
  • Comorbid mental health problems, including the management of executive/ work related stress, sleep difficulties/transcultural psychiatry
  • Medico-legal report
  • Psychiatric reports for Occupational Health



Fees, Training & Background:

Dr Lagundoye graduated from the University of Ibadan, Medical School in 1987.   After initially working in general practice he began his basic postgraduate psychiatric training. He became a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) in 1998.

Between 1998 and 2002 he undertook specialist training in General Adult Psychiatry, sub-specialising in Addiction Psychiatry.

In 2002 he was appointed as Consultant Psychiatrist in substance misuse by the Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust.    This is a city-wide service dedicated to providing care for individuals with Addiction disorders and Comorbid mental health problems (Dual Diagnosis).

He holds regular outpatient clinics at the Fitzwilliam Centre and runs an outreach clinic for pregnant patients with addiction difficulties in a Primary Care setting.

He actively utilises a combination of pharmacological and psychological interventions in the management of addiction.

He is the Regional Advisor for the Medical Council on Alcohol, UK.

He is Section 12 Approved under the Mental Health Act.

He is actively involved in collaborative research in the Addiction field and has published in peer reviewed journals since 1998.  He has extensive medico-legal experience writing reports for criminal and civil cases, including assessing the impact of drug misuse on offending, assessment and management of drug using parents for Child Protection proceedings and access needs for families with alcohol and substance misuse problems.
