Dr Song qualified from Edinburgh University and undertook postgraduate clinical and research training in Edinburgh, Yorkshire and Los Angeles. Since 2004, he has been a consultant physician and diabetologist in Northern General Hospital, Sheffield.
His clinical practice includes managing acute and chronic general medical conditions, heart failure, general diabetes conditions and specialist diabetes areas including antenatal diabetes, insulin pumps, diabetic renal disease, young type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular risk.
He is the clinical lead for antenatal diabetes, insulin pump, young type 2 diabetes, diabetic renal disease and heart failure services. He is also involved in the formulation of guidelines for lipid and hypertension management in Sheffield.
His research interest focused specifically on cardiovascular risk and complications in young type 2 diabetes.
He is involved nationally in the postgraduate MRCP (UK) and Specialist Certification Examination for Diabetes & Endocrinology.
