Joe Garcia is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who specialises in wrist and hand surgery. He qualified from Sheffield University in 1991 and continued to complete his higher surgical training in Sheffield. After developing an interest in hand and wrist surgery he carried out further training in this speciality in Sydney, Australia. He completed a 1 year Hand Fellowship at Sydney Hospital and St. Luke’s Hand Unit.
On his return from his fellowship he was appointed to a consultant NHS post at Chesterfield Royal Hospital in 2003. Here, he has developed a comprehensive hand surgery service for the local community. His practice encompasses the management of complex hand and wrist trauma and surgical solutions to many disabling hand conditions.
Joe offers a similarly comprehensive service in the private sector, practicing in Claremont Private Hospital.
His speciality covers many common hand conditions including:
- Carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome
- Dupuytren’s disease
- Arthritis of the wrist, base of thumb and other small joints of the hand
- Surgical release of triggers fingers and thumbs
As well as the treatment of traumatic and sports injuries:
- Wrist fractures
- Scaphoid fractures and their complications
- Small bone fractures
- Ligament injuries of the wrist and hand
His practice includes arthroscopic surgery of the wrist and collagenase injections in the treatment of Dupuytren’s disease. Joe also enjoys being involved in the continued education of junior colleagues and GP’s at both a local and national level. He recently taught at the British Orthopaedic Association National Congress.
