Fees, Training & Background:

Jonathan Skull is a Consultant Gynaecologist specialising in Reproductive Medicine and Surgery.  After graduating  from Bristol University in 1988, he trained in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Bristol, Sheffield and London.  He was senior IVF co-ordinator at the Hammersmith Hospital working with Professor Lord Robert Winston.  Upon returning to Sheffield in 1997, he then worked as a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sheffield working with Professor Ian Cooke and Professor Bill Ledger.

In 2001 he was appointed Consultant Gynaecologist and Clinical Head of Assisted Conception and set up the Assisted Conception Unit (ACU) at the Jessop Wing.  The unit has quickly established itself as one of the leading centres for reproductive medicine and surgery in the UK, treating both NHS and fee paying patients.  Patients can be seen privately at the Claremont for initial investigations and surgery, before being referred to the Jessop Wing for assisted conception.

Mr Skull has responsibilities for undergraduate and post graduate teaching and training in reproductive medicine.  He is an accredited trainer for the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) and the British Fertility Society (BFS).  He also supervises an active clinical research programme at the Jessop Wing.  Current interests include mild ovarian stimulation regimes, implantation failure and studies of stress and infertility.

He plays a key role in helping develop regional NHS fertility services.  He is an expert adviser for the Specialised Commissioning Groups in Yorkshire and the Humber and the East Midlands.

Mr Skull has particular interests in laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery and tubal microsurgery, including reversal of sterilisation.  He also has special interests in endometriosis, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and male factor infertility including surgical sperm recovery.

Mr Skull runs a weekly fertility clinic here at Claremont Hospital.  He also provides a gynaecological scanning service, for patients undergoing fertility investigation and treatment and early pregnancy reassurance scans.
