Training & background:
Mr Balasubramanian is a General Surgeon who specialises in Endocrine Surgery and sees patients with thyroid, parathyroid and requiring adrenal surgery.
He did his early medical training in India and higher surgical training and research in Sheffield. Mr Balasubramanian then did a fellowship in Endocrine Surgery in King’s College Hospital, London before moving back to Sheffield.
He now works as a Consultant Endocrine Surgeon in Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and as Honorary Professor at the University of Sheffield. He is a member of the British Association of Endocrine and Thyroid Surgeons (BAETS) and has been in the BAETS executive as an educational lead since 2017.
His clinical interests are primarily focussed on the management of diseases of the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands. He participates in the national endocrine surgery audit and key clinical outcomes of his surgical practice are available for access at the BAETS dendrite database (https://baets.e-dendrite.com/).
His research involves investigation of medical devices for intra-operative use, epidemiology and diagnosis of thyroid cancer, reducing risk of hypoparathyroidism after thyroid surgery, and the practice of evidence based surgery.
