Training & background:
Mr Balasubramanian is a General Surgeon who specialises in Endocrine Surgery and sees patients with thyroid, parathyroid and requiring adrenal surgery.
He did his early medical training in India and higher surgical training and research in Sheffield. Mr Balasubramanian then did a fellowship in Endocrine Surgery in King’s College Hospital, London before moving back to Sheffield.
He now works as a Consultant Endocrine Surgeon in Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and as Honorary Professor at the University of Sheffield.
His clinical interests are primarily focussed on the management of diseases of the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands. His research involves investigation of medical devices for intra-operative use, epidemiology and over diagnosis of thyroid cancer, reducing risk of hypoparathyroidism after thyroid surgery, and the practice of evidence based surgery.
