Training & background:
Mr Longstaff is a Consultant Ophthalmologist in the NHS at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital with a long-established private practice at Claremont.
He was one of the early adopters of modern small incision cataract surgery in the UK introducing the technique to Sheffield, some 20 years ago. He was also responsible for training many local eye surgeons and was instrumental in developing local day case cataract surgery in the NHS and private sector.
He is a past council member of the UK & Ireland Cataract & Refractive Surgery Society and an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He has publications predominantly in cataract and glaucoma.
His other subspeciality interest is Glaucoma and recently was the first in the UK to introduce Trabectome minimally invasive surgery for glaucoma both alone and combined with cataract extraction. He regularly lectures on a national basis on this technique.
