Mr Winder is a Consultant Ophthalmologist in the NHS at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital and also the cataract unit at the Northern General Hospital with an established private practice at Claremont.
He studied medicine at St. Thomas’ Hospital in London and trained in Ophthalmology in Sheffield, Aberdeen, Nottingham and Moorfields Eye Hospital in London where he completed a Fellowship in Vitreoretinal surgery.
He is a Vitreoretinal Surgeon specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of retinal disorders and an experienced small incision Cataract Surgeon. He contributes to the National Ophthalmic Audit of cataract surgery.
He was the Clinical Director of the Ophthalmology Department at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital for two terms.
He has presented at international meetings and published in numerous journals. He is a reviewer for the British Journal of Ophthalmology and Eye and chaired the subspecialty committee on production of vitreoretinal patient information leaflets. He is the Senior Examiner for the Part 2 examination for Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists
He is also an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Sheffield and has a Master’s Degree in Medical Education. He is a member of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the British and Eire Association of Vitreoretinal Surgeons and Euretina Society. He is a former President of the North of England Ophthalmology Society and current chair of their education committee
He is married with two children. He enjoys outdoor pursuits and is a keen tennis player.
